How Each Meeting Works

The Hyannis format walks through the Big Book together in a structured 15-week cycle.

Read

We read the assigned Big Book pages aloud together as a group, paragraph by paragraph.

Qualify

A member shares their experience, strength, and hope as it relates to the week's reading.

Share

The floor opens for members to share how the reading applies to their own recovery.

Repeat

Every 15 weeks we begin again, deepening our understanding each time through.

Common Questions

No. We read the text aloud together, so you can follow along by listening. If you'd like your own copy, you can find the Big Book online at aa.org or order a physical copy.
Neither. The Great Fact is a coed meeting, open to everyone regardless of gender. All are welcome.
No. Sharing is always voluntary. Many people attend for weeks or months before sharing. You are welcome to just listen.
The Hyannis format is a structured approach to studying the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, developed on Cape Cod in the 1980s. It follows a 15-week rotation through the first 164 pages, combining reading aloud, qualifying from the text, and group sharing. Learn more on our About page.

7th Tradition

Every AA group ought to be fully self-supporting, declining outside contributions.
